Breast Augmentation Experience

Undergoing a breast augmentation is both a scary and exciting adventure. There are many different emotions that arise for any woman deciding to make a positive change to their body. An extremely important part of the change is the entire breast augmentation experience. This experience includes any and all events from the initial consultation through every follow-up appointment there after. Over the past thirteen years Dr. Daniel Golshani has had the opportunity to help thousands of woman with their wishes to undergo breast enlargement. Despite the significant amount of press associated with breast augmentations, it is extremely important to acknowledge the fact that this operation should be taken seriously. Patients that benefit the most from breast augmentation surgery are patients that have thought about surgery for an extended period of time. Dr. Golshani always makes sure that the patients desire for the surgery are not affected by external forces such as being told by a friend or significant other to undergo an breast augmentation. If the patient is affected by external forces it is a sign that that particular patient will benefit less from the procedure.

Generally speaking, the consultation for a breast augmentation with Dr. Golshani is initiated with a collection of chief complaints. These complaints may be both physical and emotional and can range from breast asymmetry or unequal breasts and inadequate chest fullness, to significant psychological distress that a woman may be experiencing as a result of having small breasts. In such circumstances, with observation of no external factors being present, a complete history and physical examination is included. The patients chest is examined with respect to her shoulders, hips, and waist. The chest wall circumference and breast size are taken into consideration, as well as the skin quality. Areas in the skin where stretch marks are present represent a difference in the skin quality and the choice of implants then vary. If a patient has a petite chest and a small breast size with respect to her height as well as the chest circumference, the type of implant choice varies and generally leans toward narrower implants of the moderate plus or high profile type to accommodate for the width of each breast. The experienced plastic surgeon, with an eye for proportion, shape, beauty and sculpting, almost artistically takes all of these factors into consideration during the physical examination. Special marking devises and rulers are also utilized to make exact measurements which help enhance the desired outcome. Computer software which show an augmentation of the breast could be helpful in the initial consultation however, often times they are misleading in creating a misconception with the patient with respect to what to the patient should expect their breasts to look like after surgery. This misconception may result in significant misunderstandings between the surgeon and patient which are avoidable. Based on Dr. Golshani's extensive experience and expertise, the best mode is direct conversation with the patient including thorough explanation of what to expect while the physical examination and consultation are being performed. This interaction also includes the patient trying a series of different size and shape implants during the consultation to understand the actual size and shape of the breast that could be achieved for her. The final decision will be based on the patients personal expectations and expert advise from the surgeon. It is tremendously important that the patient has realistic expectations of their personal outcome. This is best achieved through open and honest communication between patient and surgeon.

Finally, after an implant size, shape, and type, namely saline or silicone, has been chosen, Dr. Golshani discusses with the patient all risks, potential complications and alternative methods of management. After the initial consultation with Dr. Golshani has been completed, the patient can then review the multitudes of before and after photographs available for viewing from previous patients who have consented to allow their photographs to be seen. Patients are also encouraged to come in for a second pre-operative consultation prior to making her decision so any and all remaining questions can be answered and anxieties can be eased as much as possible.

Breast augmentation surgery is an important operation. It is essential that it is done with utmost respect for the procedure to try to minimize any complications or poor outcomes. It is often a life changing experience that brings much happiness and confidence to the patient. Dr. Golshani has seen thousands of patients who undergo breast augmentation lead happier lives as a result of this procedure.
