Pregnancy or significant weight loss can stretch abdominal muscles and produce an excess of loose skin and a protruding abdomen that does not respond to diet and exercise. A fairly common procedure today, Abdominoplasty, also known as a "Tummy Tuck", improves and reshapes the body contour by tightening the stomach muscles and strengthening the abdominal walls. The goal of an Abdominoplasty is to: (1) remove excess fat and skin from the middle and lower abdomen, (2) tighten skin that has lost elasticity, and (3) tighten the abdominal wall musculature.
There are two types of Tummy Tucks. The most common type is the Full Abdominoplasty. It is a full tightening of the abdominal wall and skin, and entails bikini and umbilical incisions. The second kind of Tummy Tuck is a Partial Abdominoplasty, or a Mini-Tummy Tuck. This is typically for people who have the majority of unwanted fat and loose skin in the lower area of their abdomen. During this procedure, the incision will be much shorter in length and the tightening will only take place below the umbilicus. A Mini-Abdominoplasty is often performed together with liposuction and fat grafting to the buttocks. Consutl Dr. Daniel Golshani for a tummy tuck in Beverly Hills.
Will I be able to move after surgery?
Standing up straight may be difficult at first, but a patient should attempt to start walking as soon as possible, most often by the next morning after surgery. Movement and exercise promotes healing, lowers the chance of blood clots and fever, and may help you feel better. Dr. Golshani will discuss with patients the pre-operative and post-operative diet, exercise and supplement planning, which is highly individualized in each case.
How bad will the scars be?
Tummy Tucks do produce permanent scars. The extent of scarring will vary and depends on the patient's unique body contour, the original condition of the patient's abdominal region, and the procedures done on the patient. Most often, the incisions heal very well and cause for little concern.
