Laser Management of Scars
The progress in laser technology and resurfacing techniques have made laser therapy a new treatment choice for managing hypertrophic and keloid scars. For hypertrophic scars, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments have been found to be effective in decreasing redness or capillary formation common with this type of scar. Over several treatments, IPL may also result in flattening of hypertrophic scars.
Fraxel laser resurfacing has also been found to be effective in improving scars by diminishing the width of the scar line and gradually resurfacing its edge resulting in improvements of scar’s shape and size. Over a long period of time, Fraxel can be used in conjunction with steroid injections to significantly improve the size and visibility of a surgical or traumatic scar.
