What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover combines two or more body contouring, breast enhancing, fat reduction, or other cosmetic procedures into one surgical plan to address your unique body sculpting and rejuvenation needs. The choice of procedures in your mommy makeover is made in collaboration between you and Dr. Golshani.

Your mommy makeover might include:

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, to flatten, tone, and smooth the abdomen. In a tummy tuck, stretched, sagging, or wrinkled skin is tightened; excess fat is removed; and underlying weakened or separated muscles are repaired and reinforced.

Breast Surgery

Breast surgery to correct sagging, improve the shape of the breasts, and either increase or reduce the size of your breasts. Breast enhancement surgery options as part of a mommy makeover may include breast lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation using implants or fat grafting, or breast lift with augmentation.

Liposuction

Liposuction removes pockets of excess fat resistant to diet and exercise changes and can address unwanted fat from the abdomen, hips, waistline, buttocks, lower back, thighs, upper arms, or below your chin.

Other Mommy Makeover Procedures

While these are the most common procedures in mommy makeovers, they are only included if you are bothered by these features. Your mommy makeover might also include other body-contouring procedures, such as:

When liposuction is part of your mommy makeover, the extracted fat can be processed for injection into a place on the body or face where more volume is desired. This combined treatment is known as autologous fat transfer or fat grafting. Fat transfer can be used to augment the breasts, add fullness to the cheeks, plump the lips, and make other cosmetic improvements.

A mommy makeover can also include non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments from our expert team at Avosant Medi-Spa, including:

Planning Your Los Angeles Mommy Makeover

Your consultation with Dr. Golshani is a critical step in planning your successful mommy makeover. A patient coordinator will meet with you briefly before Dr. Golshani joins the consultation and will stay in the room to take notes on what is discussed and decided. Dr. Golshani will ask questions to understand your goals for treatment and your medical history. He will then examine you to assess the quality of your skin, the extent of muscle laxness, the location and amount of excess body fat, and the shape and position of your breasts. Based on your anatomy, goals, and history, Dr. Golshani will recommend an approach to treatment. He will also thoroughly explain what you can expect throughout the process, how to prepare for surgery and care for yourself afterward, your likely outcome, and your risks.

Dr. Golshani will answer any questions you have about the surgery, and the patient coordinator will meet with you afterward to answer all of your non-surgical questions. It’s Dr. Golshani’s goal to ensure that you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision about the surgery and that you understand what your role will be in preparing yourself for the procedure and caring for yourself afterward.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

During your consultation, Dr. Golshani will inform you of whether you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover and which procedures will help you achieve your goals.

In general, the ideal candidate for a mommy makeover:

  • Is bothered by loose skin, accumulations of stubborn fat, a bulging tummy, sagging breasts, or breasts that are too large or too small
  • Is at a healthy and stable weight, and is not significantly overweight
  • Is in good overall health
  • Is not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Does not smoke, or can quit smoking for six weeks before and after the surgery
  • Has realistic expectations for the outcome of the surgery
  • Is aware of the risks

It’s best to wait until you are finished having children before having a mommy makeover, though there’s nothing about the procedure that will prevent you from having another child. The changes to your abdomen and breasts during a new pregnancy can undo some of the enhancements made by the surgery.

If you are interested in a mommy makeover but are not yet at a healthy and stable weight, Dr. Golshani may help you form a nutrition and exercise plan or prescribe medication to help you reach a weight that will allow you to qualify as a candidate for the surgery.

How to Prepare for Mommy Makeover Surgery

Dr. Golshani will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for your surgery. These may include measures to take in the weeks before surgery, such as stopping smoking and fortifying your health, or short-term measures, such as discontinuing certain medications and avoiding herbal supplements in the days just before your procedure.

Dr. Golshani will also give you an overview of how you can prepare your home, what you need on hand, fill prescriptions, and arrange for needed help.

Real Case Studies, Real Results

Words can only do so much when it comes to life-changing plastic surgery results. However, I’d like to show you a couple of cases of my own patients who cannot be happier with their results.

This patient came to me after trying to get back into shape following her pregnancy. She told me she just couldn’t fix her body no matter what she ate or what exercises she performed both at home and occasionally at the gym. She decided to come in for a consultation to see what her options were. I recommended her a Mommy Makeover that consisted of a tummy tuck and liposuction to remove excess skin from her stomach area, as well as a breast lift to reverse the sagging in her breasts. She’s been a very happy mother ever since!

Patient was unsatisfied with the way she looked after having 2 children. She wanted the body she had before pregnancy. She wanted a toned, flatter belly and breasts that appeared fuller and with more volume. I performed a tummy tuck on her and augmented her breasts in a way to add more volume. I made her dreams become reality and she’s ecstatic every time she looks in the mirror.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Los Angeles Mommy Makeover Surgery

Mommy makeover surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, using general anesthesia. As with all our surgeries, it is performed in our state-of-the-art surgical center, the Rexford Surgical Institute, which is in our building on the same floor as our office. For some combinations of procedures, the surgery is done in two stages, allowing you to heal from the first procedure or group of procedures before performing the second stage.

The specifics of your surgery, including what will be done and how long it will take will depend on the combination of procedures in your mommy makeover. Dr. Golshani will explain what will happen in your surgery during your consultation and the guidance he gives you in the weeks and days before the surgery.

What to Expect After Your Mommy Makeover Surgery

Your experience in recovery from your mommy makeover will depend on the combination of procedures and the extent of the changes that have been made. You should plan to rest at home for the first week after surgery. Expect some swelling and bruising in the areas that have been treated, which can be minimized with the use of compression garments or bandages. Any discomfort you experience can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. If your mommy makeover includes a tummy tuck, you may require assistance to help you with any tasks that involve lifting or bending, including scaring for small children.

Dr. Golshani will provide thorough instructions on how to care for yourself as you recover and when to return for follow-up visits.

Most patients can return to non-physical work within two weeks after a mommy makeover. Others, especially those with jobs that require movement, will need to take three to four weeks off work. Two weeks is usually the point at which you can begin to resume light physical activity. Gradually build up to your normal activity level, including strenuous exercises or activities that use your abdominal muscles like crunches or heavy lifting. Recovery may be a bit faster if your mommy makeover does not include a tummy tuck.

Mommy Makeover Surgery FAQs -Beverly Hills, CA

The recovery time for a Mommy Makeover, which typically involves a combination of procedures like Breast Augmentation, Tummy Tuck, and Liposuction, can vary depending on the extent of surgery and an individual’s healing process. In general, patients may expect a 2-4 weeks recovery before returning to normal activities. Full recovery may take several months, and it is important to follow post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Golshani.

It is recommended to be at a stable and healthy weight before undergoing a mommy makeover to achieve optimal results. While the procedures can address excess skin and stubborn fat deposits, significant weight loss after surgery may affect the outcome. Dr. Golshani and his team of surgical coordinators can provide guidance on the best approach to prepare for the procedure.

The duration of a Mommy Makeover surgery can range from 4 to 6 hours or more, depending on the combination of procedures being performed. Dr. Golshani will provide a more accurate estimate based on your individualized treatment plan.

For proper healing, exercise and physical activity should be avoided for several weeks after a Mommy Makeover. Dr. Golshani will provide guidelines on when you can gradually reintroduce exercise into your routine based on your individual recovery progress. Light activities can be resumed gradually after a few weeks, with more strenuous exercise introduced over time as you heal.

Preparation for a Mommy Makeover may include:

  • Quitting smoking.
  • Maintaining a healthy diet.
  • Staying hydrated.
  • Organizing your post-operative care and recovery space.

Following Dr. Golshani’s pre-operative instructions is essential for a successful outcome.

Absolutely not. “Mommy Makeover” is a popular name given to a combination of procedures designed to enhance a woman’s body for a trimmer, more youthful appearance. The improvements made in a Mommy Makeover can benefit any woman who is bothered by the changes to her body over time, including sagging breasts, loose skin, a protruding belly, or areas of excess fat. Having children can certainly contribute to these unwanted changes in a woman’s body, but so can the aging process or significant weight fluctuations.

The best time for a Mommy Makeover is after you’ve finished having children, and at least six months after you’ve had your last child and completed breastfeeding. If you don’t have children, and don’t plan to, the best time for a Mommy Makeover is when you are ready to have unwanted changes to your body reversed.

Having a Mommy Makeover will, in no way, prevent you from getting pregnant in the future. However, a future pregnancy can significantly affect the results of a Mommy Makeover. To ensure your excellent results last a long time, it is best to have a Mommy Makeover once you are done having children.

Absolutely! The method of child delivery does not affect whether or not you are a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover.

When performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Daniel Golshani, in a safe surgical setting, such as Rexford Surgical Institute, combining multiple procedures in a Mommy Makeover can be safe and effective. Dr. Golshani will assess your health, individual needs, and surgical plan to ensure your safety and well-being.

Loose, comfortable clothing, such as front-closing tops and elastic-waist bottoms, is recommended after a Mommy Makeover. This type of clothing is easy to put on and take off, minimizes discomfort, and avoids pressure on the surgical sites. Our surgical coordinators will also provide specialized compression garments or specific post-operative garments to wear during the recovery period.

It is typically recommended to sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first few weeks after a Mommy Makeover to reduce swelling and promote proper healing. Using pillows to support your body and avoid pressure on the treated areas can help enhance comfort during sleep.

It is generally recommended to wait until you have fully recovered from childbirth, breastfeeding, and reached a stable weight before considering a Mommy Makeover. Your surgeon may advise waiting at least 6-12 months postpartum to ensure optimal results and safety.
