Sclerotherapy In Beverly Hills, CA

Spider veins and varicose veins are common cosmetic problems for many women and can be treated with sclerotherapy. Spider veins, also called telangiectasias, are clusters of unsightly purple, red or blue veins that lie close to the skin’s surface. They are commonly found on the legs including the ankles, calves, and thighs and they can also appear on the face. Varicose veins are larger and deeper and may have a swollen, bluish and unsightly appearance. Also known as venous varicosities, they can cause pain, discomfort, and edema, and develop in the legs and ankles.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure, done by your cosmetic surgeon, that treats spider and smaller varicose veins. A relatively painless procedure, sclerotherapy requires no anesthesia and does not take more than an hour. A sclerosing solution is injected into the unwanted veins in order to immediately collapse and shrink them. Additionally, the solution closes the problem veins so blood is re-routed and can flow more efficiently through normal veins. Within a couple of weeks, the body naturally absorbs the treated veins causing their disappearance and recurrence is not likely. The procedure may also diminish bothersome symptoms including aching, burning, and swelling.

What Causes Varicose And Spider Veins

A number of factors including genetics, pregnancy, weight gain, prolonged standing or sitting, and certain medications can cause spider and varicose veins. Failure of the venous valves in your veins can also be the cause of varicose veins. When these valves do not function properly, pressure builds up, and the veins may become enlarged, weak and twisted. Facial spider veins are usually caused by rosacea, sun damage or trauma such as bruising. Though both types of conditions affect mostly women, they can also occur in men.

Why Is It Important To Have A Consultation?

While smaller varicose veins can be treated with sclerotheraphy, larger varicose veins may need to be treated with different techniques including surgery or a more modern technique called Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT). Therefore, it is critical to have the problem vein(s) evaluated by a board-certified surgeon such as Dr. Daniel Golshani in any of his Los Angeles locations. During a consultation with Dr. Golshani, the varicose vein(s) will be evaluated using a Doppler, or duplex, ultrasound to access whether there is any failure in the deep venous valves. After the evaluation, Dr. Golshani will discuss possible modes of therapy which best fit your needs and requirements.
